All About Swimming Pool Enclosures

Covers are not the best choice for swimming pool enclosures. They can be used to cover the entire area and allow bathing and swimming to occur while the enclosure is closed.

There are many types of enclosures, but the most popular is the sectional telescopic canoe. This type of structure has multiple sections that telescope out to cover the pool in cooler weather, and then retract to expose the area during warm days. These pool enclosures are motorized or manually opened and slide on runners.

The sections are made from toughened glass are held in a lightweight frame that slides around the perimeter of the pool. Most models have manual-adjustable ventilation openings.

There are also permanent (non-retractable)enclosures available. However, these structures are permanent and may need a planning permit depending on local laws.

These structures are often called "pool houses", and can be constructed of brick or stone. However, they have a roof and wall that are predominantly made of glass. This structure is more expensive than the telescopes and can be used to convert an outdoor pool into an indoor one.

On the other end of the spectrum are inflatable bubble enclosures, which are tied or weighted over the swimming pool.

The bubbles are inflated using an air pump. This creates a bubble of warm air around the swimming area. These bubbles make swimming more enjoyable on cool days.

A pool house can convert an outdoor pool to an indoor pool, while a telescopic enclosure gives you the best of both. Although bubbles are cheap to purchase, they can be easily damaged and require storage and packing when not in use.
