Braces: A Quick Guide To Orthodontic Treatment

Braces are a form of orthodontic treatment used to correct misaligned teeth and jaw. Braces are composed of brackets, bands, wires, and other components which are attached to individual teeth, and adjusted from time to time to slowly move the teeth into the desired position.

Orthodontic treatment is used to improve the function and appearance of the teeth and jaw, and braces are the most common form of orthodontic treatment.

Types of braces

The type of braces used depends on the severity of the misalignment, as well as the patient’s age, lifestyle, and preference. Metal braces are the most common and least expensive type of braces, and they are composed of metal brackets and wires that are glued to the teeth and adjusted periodically.

Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces, but they are made of ceramic material that blends in with the teeth. Lingual braces are similar to metal braces, but they are placed on the inside of the teeth, making them virtually invisible. Invisalign is a newer type of brace that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move the teeth into the desired position.

Benefits

Orthodontic treatment can improve the appearance of the teeth and jaw, and can also improve the overall health of the mouth. Braces can also help to improve the bite, making it easier to chew and speak. Orthodontic treatment can also prevent further damage to the teeth and can reduce the risk of dental problems in the future.
