Fundamentals Of Commercial Electric Transformers In Florida

A commercial electric transformer is an electrical device used to increase or decrease the voltage of an alternating current (AC) electrical circuit. It is used to increase the voltage of a low-voltage circuit to a high-voltage circuit, or to decrease the voltage of a high-voltage circuit to a low-voltage circuit.

Principle of Operation:

A commercial power transformer works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When an alternating current is passed through the primary winding of the transformer, it creates a magnetic field that induces a current in the secondary winding. This induced current is proportional to the ratio of the number of turns of the primary winding to the number of turns of the secondary winding.

Types of commercial electric transformers include:

2. Ferromagnetic-Core Transformer – These transformers use a ferromagnetic core material such as iron, steel, or nickel to increase the magnetic field. This type of transformer is more efficient than an air-core transformer.

3. Coreless Transformer – These transformers use an air gap between the primary and secondary windings to induce a current in the secondary winding. This type of transformer is very efficient and is widely used in commercial applications.

Commercial electric transformers are widely used in a variety of applications, ranging from power distribution to motor control. They are available in various types and sizes, and they can be used to either increase or decrease the voltage of an AC circuit.
